We’re moving, again. (part 4)

Continuing on with the saga… as I told y’all before, we had our house “staged” by an interior designer.  Well, it has officially been nine weeks since we put our house on the market and staged the house.  Still no offers, of any kind, not even an offer that was way too low.  Nothing, NADA, Rein, Nichts. Pick a language, it still means we ain’t got shit happening with the sale of our house.  This basically lead us to make the decision to pull out all the staging and re-do it ourselves so that we won’t have to continue to rent all the furniture, rugs, and decor items.  This is very good for a number of reasons.

  1. We will be saving a bunch of money by switching our car insurance to Geico.  NO, JUST KIDDING.  But we will actually be saving a ton of cash each month that the house doesn’t sell and this designer guys stuff isn’t in our house.
  2. I won’t have to yell at the kids not to spill any food on the kitchen chair pads & various rugs.  Or worry about something getting broken and so on.
  3. We decided to put the flatscreen t.v. back up in our bedroom by either hanging it on the wall or using a narrow table so that the fireplace doesn’t get blocked.  It’s been too long since we’ve been able to watch a regular size t.v.  YEA T.V.!
  4. I get to go shopping and spend a bunch of mooolah and the husband said it was OK!!!  (He did set a limit, unfortunately, so I can’t just max out our credit cards).
  5. I get to pretend that I’m an interior designer ~ It’s one of the things that I used to want to be one when I was a kid, you know.

So tomorrow the designer is coming over to clear out all his stuff.  In the mean time, I have been shopping (YEA ME!) to find items that are comparable.  As it turns out, he left tags on almost every item that he used.  That made it rather easy for me.  All I had to do was go to the store and buy it.  In a couple of cases I haven’t been able to locate certain items, but I found something close enough to his stuff that it recreates the same look.  I watch a ton of shows on HGTV that talk about finding items that are similar to designer but without the designer price tag.  Hey, isn’t that the catch phrase from TJMaxx?  I’ve been to that store.  And in fact, I’ve found a few things that the designer even used!

There are about 5 different stores that I wanted to check out and I’ve managed to go to three of them so far.  And it has been a little like being on a treasure hunt.  Seeing which store has what and at what price.  Fun stuff! Good times. I went to a consignment store in town today and found a couple end tables & a coffee table that will work perfectly BUT I need to negotiate the price down a little before I can buy them.  It’s amazing how quickly the dollars add up for all these things.  I still need to find indoor rugs, outdoor rugs, fabric to make new window coverings, plus lots of art work.  Whew, there certainly is a lot of work to do!

We’re devoting Saturday & Sunday to re-staging the house.  Hopefully that will be enough time.  We still have to go back to one of the stores to pick up the “faux” trees.  I will need to sew the fabric panels to create the window coverings.  We need to move the couches back from storage to our living room.

Alright, I’m starting to get overwhelmed thinking about it all.  I’m gonna go do some more shopping….

Enough for now,

Ciao
